Man Arrested in Stepson's and Wife's Beatings

A West Hempstead man was arrested on charges that he beat his 11-year-old stepson, then beat and locked his wife in the basement when she tried to stop him, police said. The man was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest. His wife and stepson were treated at a nearby hospital and released. Police have responded to at least two domestic disturbances, but none of them physical, at the house.
